My old friend Sade, written as a poem cum blues song.
Oh how I wish you would fadeWish you would fadePainful you areMy old friend SadeThe prices I paidThose words never saidAnd mistakes never made(Rhythm change)Oh how I miss you nowPlease forgive me for how I treated youBitter were the words I usedI’m sorry I cheated youAnd never said what I always knewYou’re still loved by your prodigal sonIn him your memory will live onOh how I wish you would fadeWish you would fadeThose sweet regretsMy old friend SadeIn my dreamsWhere I now find my memoriesTime will always haunt me(Rhythm change)I hope you found your peaceIf I only knew what little time I had leftI would have made you proudAnd love from your grandchildren you would have feltBefore you were laid to restIn every game of chessI’ll remember the good times and not the regretsOh how I wish you would fadeWish you would fadeLife bitter sweetMy old friend SadePlease fade away.
The poem is about how I will often torture myself over regrets I will always remember. Those regrets do not need to be about the things I have done, but can also be about the chances I never took.
