Following IPC, I attended a language school in Kalø. It was there I decided to take a dive into the trade of farming. I attended classes and tried to learn a trade far removed from my daily life growing up. It wasn't a life long dream, but a last ditch attempt at having some sort of future. I didn't truely care about the details of farming; I wanted a future, not a passion. I however was surprised by how much science went into being a farmer and how technical the feild was. A modern farmer today is a technically minded professional who not only repairs and maintains tractors, equipment and structures but also understands the chemistry of his soil, basic geology, botany and biology, especially where bacteria are concerned. Further more, they specialize within a feild such as dairy production and aminal husbandry, which can be understood as, well, dairy production and genetics.
Yes, I could have become a farmer and would have become so. Why did I not become one is partially covered by my Family Connections post. I moved on and changed my plans. I continue to study and will graduate with the degree I desire. I do however maintain a healthy respect for farmers today and understand farming is a profitable primary industry vital to Earth's global economy. I would even be willing to invest in farms in the future.
I suppose it is the dream of being independent. I want to be my own boss. To choose how I work for myself and not be given jobs I think are below me, that bore me to tears. It is an attractive life style.
Still, I view my time at Kalø's farming school to be a waste of time in some aspects, but I knew no better then and it was a sound choice at the time. It does encourage me to learn a couple of trades though so I may work productively though school. But, that time is behind me now, only to be written about.
